The original Streets of Rage made a successful transition from the Genesis to the Game Gear. Complete with simultaneous two-player, two-fisted action, Streets of Rage 2 is now poised to make its own small-screen debut. Don't look for any complex story lines here, it's just pure, nonstop fighting action!

In Streets of Rage three young vigilante police officers, Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, and Adam Hunter, destroyed the evil Syndicate leader, Mr. X, and saved the city. The soundtrack for Streets of Rage 2 was composed by Yuzo Koshiro, along with three contributions from Motohiro Kawashima. It was composed using then outdated NEC PC-8801 hardware alongside Koshiro's own audio programming language.According to Koshiro: 'For Bare Knuckle I used the PC88 and an original programming language I developed myself. The original was called MML, Music Macro.
Link up with a friend for two-player, simultaneous action (via a Gear-to-Gear cable), or go solo in this sidescrolling slugfest. Five treacherous levels jam-packed with all types of goons and thugs block your way to the final showdown with Mr. X. The large, sharp graphics ensure that you feel every punch, slam, and slap.
Several changes had to be made to size this Genesis game down to Game Gear parameters. For instance, you are only able to choose among Blaze, Axel, and Skate (Adam's been abducted, remember?), and their moves have been simplified in comparison to their Genesis repertoire. Each hero still has different strengths and weaknesses, though, including power, technique, speed, jump, and stamina. Each one can also punch, jump, jump kick, flip opponents, and use one specialized move. For example, Axel launches into a whirlwind, six-hit flurry of punches topped with a spinning uppercut. It's easy to activate the fight moves, and all the on-screen action responds to the silky smooth controls.
The game's challenge is variable, with an option menu that enables you to choose among Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulty levels, and one to five players per life. With each continue, you can restart with a different character. Additional help is available in the form of power-ups hidden throughout each level, including extra players, health units, and weapons (knives, steel bars, and so on).
For Streets of Rage 2 (probably THE best Mega Drive game of all time) he goes for a Latina sound simultaneously with hardcore rave, which was popular at the time. Across 8 levels, and sub-levels, through ghettos, theme parks, stadiums, and tropical beaches the tunes changed, giving each location their own thematic identity, while occasionally.
Hand-Held Mayhem
Streets of Rage 2 is a handful of fighting fun. If you enjoyed the original, you'll love this sequel. Crisp graphics, nonstop fighting action, and the ability to customize the game's difficulty make this cart accessible to gamers of all calibers. See you on the streets!
ProTips:
- Blaze's fireballs don't span the entire length of the screen. It does take extra time to launch her fireballs, so move to a safe distance before you shoot.
- Jam opponents offscreen, then continuously swing the crowbar at them when they try to reenter the screen.
- Power-ups are usually hidden In background Items along the top of the screen.
- Adam can't move while he's executing his special move. Stand in a safe area with all your enemies in front of you before you activate it.

Chris Powell lays down a laid-back Street2 ReMix that is very soundtrack-ish, slow, and deliberate. Electric piano (or could be a really muted piano), great sax, minimalistic drums, strings, and the great mono-slide sinewave synth we all know and love combine with a syncopated slow jam style in a ReMix I think Yuzo would appreciate. The variation in the ending is really well sequenced, and the whole piece is consistent in feel and tone. Worth it for any SoR or Yuzo fans, and anyone else into more sedate stuff. Nice.

Nice mellow tune here. I love the sounds here: chill piano, wonderful sine lead, smooth strings, and a fat sax to top it off. All playing above a slow, subtle beat.
2:00 the climax here pulls the entire mix together before the ending.

While I really appreciate this mix's methodicalness, pacing, and mood, I don't really care for the saxophone samples nor really the sound scape itself. It doesn't really feels like it does a whole lot, not quite exactly spinning its wheels but.. I dunno. Maybe this track just isn't clicking with me. The ending is especially blah with the sax repeating itself over and over.
Run keygen in sandbox. Anyway, I personally don't really care for this track.

The volume levels need to be raised overall - it sounds too faint. This is a kinda nifty mix, but I felt more could've been done with it for as slowly as it progresses through the melody, especially with that extended ending.

very awesome mix, focuses a bit more on the 'streets' than on the 'rage.' kind of a different take on the beat-em-up game, and I like it a lot. good work!

I really like this mix. Sounds are nice, and everything meshes quite well together. More people should be getting this one.

The intro. Shortcut for cut on mac. Integral in every game. It was handled perfectly here, so perfect in fact, that when I made my SOR2 cd, I added this next to the original intro song, back to back. A perfect rendition of said intro. Don't miss this.

Very classy mix. The sax is sequenced nicely and the counterpoint synth is PERFECT. A very somber mix, beautifully done.
Highly recommended.

very nice.i hear you played around a bit with the piano chords, and it turned out pretty cool. the flute reminds me of a beautiful tuxedo moon song called in a manner of speaking.

Wow I really love this song. I'm glad you took one of the few slow/sad songs and made a jazzmix out of it, instead of using one of the upbeat themes. The sax is very good in this, and the strings in the background are very nice too! This was one of my favourite themes anyway so Kudos on making such a superb mix for it!!

on 2003-02-24 18:54:12 Streets of Rage 2 is probably the last game that needs it, but it's good to have another decent non-techno remix. I'm not sure if I'd really call this 'jazz', but it's mellow and fun enough. Any of you anti-techno, 'I run when I hear an artificial base beat' crowd should like this. 7/8

While smooth and mellow as Saunders says, there is also that element of chill brought out by that wonderful flute sounding sample, similarly experienced in feeling with what Avien's FF3 'Winds of Eternity' brings (see what people are raving about it here).
2:00 is my favorite part, as it strays into another melody, and is a nice change from the rest. I've never played the game but I've heard some of the original music, and all of it is exactly the opposite of this genre. Therefore much must have been done with this, and with the FF3 'Mix sounding similar, we can tell Avien sure likes this type of music!

Streets of Rage 2 'Da Streets'
Piano and saxophone. Nice mellow mix, but not my style, I don't really dig it personally. Well done though.
